Boire le Québec: Celebrating local liquor

As we progress through the pandemic, there's been a greater focus on the 'new age' of travel and exploration. It's all about a more mindful, sustainable approach, a concept that Boire le Québec brings to the fore.

The cocktail book, published by KO Éditions, is the latest dispatch from Montreal-based 1 ou 2 Cocktails. Founded in 2014, 1 ou 2 Cocktails became a collaborative outlet, where founder, Rose Simard, could share her passion for the art of mixed drinks. Her recipes are assumed from accessible ingredients, encouraging readers to get creative with their at-home happy hours.

Making delicious cocktails is a fun and rewarding activity that's more pleasing when shared with others. Friends, families, scintillating libations can bring people together. And when you go through the effort of rendering a drink yourself, you learn to appreciate its details far better. That's really what Boire le Québec is about.

To put it in a nutshell, the book is a tribute to what is distilled and produced across Québec. Conceptualised by Rose Simard and photographed by our very own Nesrine Brikci, the 1 ou 2 Cocktails team travelled across the region, uncovering the scenes behind the brands featured in the book, including Cirka, Distillerie du St. Laurent, La Société Secrète, and Menaud.

Turn the pages to discover 60 cocktail recipes that incorporate local gin, vodka, whiskey, liqueurs, and more. It answers our questions regarding preparation and consumption. Because as the writers note, "the more we know, the more proud we are to drink Québec."

In Canada, Boire le Québec is available to purchase online and in-store at Chapters, Renaud-Bray, Costco, Jean Coutu, and, of course, the 1 ou 2 Cocktails website.
