Discovering Bacanha’s organic cane sugar syrup

Enjoying non alcoholic drinks

Dry January came and went, but something further keeps me from drinking alcohol these days. Maybe it's my subconscious quest towards 'good health'. And I know people always say this, but I'm not that much of a drinker anyway. I enjoy the occasional social glass of red, but beyond that, not much else. It's ironic, really, as I sit here writing this in France, where seated in a brasserie, sipping wine from a glass of modest volume is a cliché albeit right thing to do.

As of late, I crave light and refreshing drinks that are simple to make and easy on the palate and stomach. That's where Bacanha comes in, something we only recently discovered, though the company's been around since 2013.

Syrups made with the right ingredients

Crafted in Paris, Bacanha specialises in quality syrups made from organic cane sugar, fruit concentrates and natural flavouring. The sleek, amber glass bottles come in a myriad of flavours and are available to buy from a selection of stores in Europe. It's a convenient addition to perk up non-alcoholic beverages (or alcoholic, for that matter).

Easy mocktail recipes

Recipes seem redundant when formulating something from these versatile syrups. It's far better to eyeball such things, and that's what we did as we spilt a little raw yuzu, cucumber and lime syrup into our concoctions. Sparkling water is the base. But we encourage you to play around, especially with the garnishing. As for a second cocktail idea, we love using blood oranges as the base, Bacanha’s lime syrup and finally, their delicious basil syrup. Top everything with sparkling water and you’ll have a mocktail made with delicious ingredients. Don’t worry about quantity for these cocktails, these simple recipes all depend on your personal taste. Cheers!
